There is nothing more liberating than a good book and I think that this one falls into that category. It was juicy, varied and ever so engaging. Each of the characters was alive and vibrant and struggling to cope with the lot they had been dealt.
Yes, the book has its share of dysfunction and distress and possible insanity and on one level, it is this that makes it such a fantastic read. At times, perhaps, Franzen could have edited out some scenes. However, over all, highly recommend this one to anyone looking for a bit of escapism!
In fact, I enjoyed Franzen so much in the wake of Finkler (this could possibly explain my revelling in this narrative!) that I will be chasing up The Corrections for 2011!
